The Film Week 2026 gathered strong momentum as the programme moved into a series of thought-provoking panel discussions. Central to the day was a session unpacking the strategic vision of the Namibia Film Commission (NFC), led by NFC Board Chairperson Esther Beukes, Commissioner Ronald James and Executive Secretary Florence Haifene. The discussion offered insight into the Commission’s policy direction, industry positioning and opportunities for growth in Namibia’s film sector. Additional panels explored practical and career-focused topics, including Set Etiquette: Dos and Don’ts, Namibia’s Road to the Oscars, which highlighted the importance of strategy, and Career Opportunities in the Film Industry. These discussions provided valuable guidance for both emerging and established practitioners navigating the industry. The Production Budgeting, Bookkeeping and Taxation workshop also concluded on its second day, wrapping up an intensive capacity-building programme that equipped filmmakers with essential financial and compliance knowledge. Officials from the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) contributed to the session by highlighting key tax compliance and customs requirements for film productions. Film screenings throughout the day showcased a vibrant mix of regional and continental cinema. Audiences enjoyed titles such as Netflix and Chill (Zambia), Know Thy Body, Know Thy Self (Kenya), Dollar (Zimbabwe) and This Faith (Kenya), reflecting the diversity of African storytelling. A major highlight was the premiere of three powerful Namibian documentaries. Image Restitution, Ras Sheehama: The Man, The Music, and the NFC-funded Echoes of the Wild drew a full house, demonstrating the growing appetite for local documentary storytelling. The NFC appreciates the strong support shown by industry practitioners, film enthusiasts and especially students from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST). The Film Week continues over the next two days, with audiences encouraged to attend and experience the diverse programme celebrating Namibian and African cinema.
