The Film Week 2026 Ends on a Cinematic High

After four exhilarating days of cinema, conversation and connection, The Film Week (TFW) 2026 bowed out on a high note. One that left audiences inspired, informed and excited about the future of Namibian film.

The final day culminated in an immersive live production set experience by the Film Association of Namibia (FAN), offering the TFW visitors a rare behind-the-scenes look at what truly happens on set. From coordinated crew movements to technical precision, audiences witnessed in real time the teamwork and discipline required to bring a story to life. The experience drew an enthusiastic crowd, many encountering firsthand the collaborative engine that powers successful filmmaking.

Back at the HTTPS 6th floor which housed the TFW industry program, attendees were treated to forward-looking, youth-centred engagements. The innovative duo from Edu-Games Namibia captivated audiences with interactive learning experiences that blend storytelling, technology, and play.

This was complemented by a light-hearted but insightful conversation with renowned Namibian, Cape Town–based set make-up artist and casting agent Kulan Ganes, who shared her career journey, on-set experiences, and invaluable advice on what casting agents look for. Her reflections included working on Mad Max: Fury Road, filmed partly in Namibia, which went on to win multiple Academy Awards including Best Hair and Make-up.

To close TFW guests were treated to an emotionally resonant closing night screening of Speel Aan. With multiple nominations at the upcoming Namibian Theatre & Film Awards 2026, the deeply moving and powerful film delivered a fitting finale. Celebrations continued into the night at the Namibia University of Science and Technology Hotel School, marking the end of a truly remarkable week.

TFW 2026 delivered 8 panel discussions, 2 masterclasses, 2 workshops, 2 showcases reaching 345 in-person participants, while 162 film screenings were watched by over 860 viewers. The Film Week was more than a programme, it was a cinematic feast, one that reaffirmed Namibia’s growing voice in cinema.
